A lot of things stirred public emotions in recent years, notably, Fishrot and the proposed mandatory preservation of retirement funds by the Namibia Financial Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA), because they sound in money – public money and savings that is, albeit for varied reasons. Today I want to focus on the mandatory preservation of retirement funds and what the outcry against it signifies in the context of social protection and safety nets.
